Diving into the realm of reality & fantasy, a world building atmosphere, that was the type of environment I wanted to create. I have to admit, it was difficult building on something that wasn’t quite tangible, but bit by bit, I made it work.

Playing with materials, exploring the blackness of hat and fabric, infusing both structure and elegance into one. I used a wool felt hood, hand crafting and molding with steam to allow a comfortable shape over the head, fitting onto a wooden head block. The brim protruding out for space to move and fit into and out. The stretch synthetic fabric to laying over and creating an asymmetric silhouette. The final touches in the beads around the edges of the hood. Thus paired with the beaded robe from my thesis film, ‘Heal Through Time’, this created the look for my ‘Benegesserit’.

The Benegesserit headpiece, inspired and portrayed after the “Dune” (Novel by Frank Herbert) character “The Bene Gesserit”.

The character is described to be an all powerful, all knowing yet mysterious godmother of the world. Within this mysteriousness, I imagined a veil that could hide or reveal the face, accentuating the features of the body whilst allowing privacy and comfort. It was through this that I was able to encompass the fantasy realm into a depiction of my own, from one of my favorite novels, and an amazing character with astounding character building.
